Garrett County Community Action Committee is a private nonprofit corporation organized under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. It has been operating in Garrett County, Maryland since 1965.

GCCAC works with partners to build a stronger community and to provide services that improve the quality of life for residents in Garrett County. Its activities and projects focus on strategies that assist low-income persons to be more self sufficient. The agency provides a variety of services for individuals, families and older adults. It also owns a number housing developments and community facilities located in different communities throughout Garrett County.

Approximately 55% of GCCAC's income comes from federal sources; another 15% comes from the State of Maryland and 15% from private investment and contributions. Ten percent is from earned income and 5% is from local government sources.

GCCAC was selected as a charter affiliate with Rural LISC and was picked as one of the Annie E. Casey Foundation "Kids Count" exemplary organizations in 2005. The Agency has been recognized by state and national entities for its work in community development and rural programming.

The corporation is governed by a 15-member board of directors selected by community and local interests. The corporate offices are located at 104 East Center Street in Oakland, Maryland.
